Performance Pathophysiology
Performance is not a number — Recovery is where adaptation begins
This workshop introduces a field-ready integrative medicine framework for performance as a metabolic assessment. The focus is not only on how much an athlete or patient can perform, but on how the body produces, uses and restores energy before, during and after load.
Using indirect calorimetry, local muscle monitoring and dynamic blood-gas markers, we analyse substrate use, oxygen delivery, CO2 clearance, proton load and hormonal response to better understand recovery kinetics in real-world conditions.
The pre-congress event on 7 July builds on previously developed practical slides and measurement concepts, demonstrating professional field assessment to support coaching decisions and clinical weight-reduction strategies. We focus on metabolite logistics and recovery quality. This allows a more precise understanding of fatigue, underperformance, poor adaptation and unsuccessful lifestyle interventions.
The aim is to provide clinicians, coaches and sport medicine professionals with a practical framework for person-centred assessment, recovery planning and sustainable performance development.
